Notes & Reviews:

Though Barber did experiment with 20th century compositional techniques, his style remains firmly anchored in a romantic vein. This album brings together some of the composers most appealing short scores (The School for Scandal overture and the First Essay for Orchestra) with two magnificent readings of his less performed symphonies. Those familiar with the wonderful Schippers readings of some of these scores will not be dissapointed, others are in for some most rewarding discoveries!

Notes & Reviews:

Recording information: Henry Wood Hall, Glasgow, Scotland (12/08/1998-12/09/1998).
