Notes & Reviews:

This is a feast for the wind music enthusiast! Classic works by Milhaud, Bozza, Berlioz and Saint-Saens. The distinctive sound of the saxophone employed both as an ensemble instrument and a solo instrument is employed in these richly colorful, highly idiomatic works for wind band. The program concludes with Joseph Alessi, principal trombone of the New York Philharmonic, performing the mostly dark sounding "Grande Symphonie funebre et triomphale" by Berlioz.
