J.S. Bach: Art of the Fugue / Münchinger, Stuttgart CO

Notes & Reviews:

Can it be that this is the first appearance on CD of Karl Munchinger's classic reading of Bach's The Art of Fugue on CD? Recorded in 1965, well before the period instrument movement had gained any appreciable steam, it is performed on modern instruments by the strings of the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra. The work has been recorded by a number of different instrumental ensembles, from recorders to brass. This version, however, remains the most musically satisfying.
