Pickin' on R.E.M.: The Bluegrass Tribute features guitarists Dennis Caplinger, Barry Waldrep, and Rick Carter, along with bassist Stan Foster, performing many of R.E.M.'s most recognized songs in a bluegrass style. Though the musicians do take liberties with their covers, the performances aren't enormous departures from the originals. Therefore, this album should appeal not only to R.E.M. fans but also bluegrass fans. Some of the featured songs include "Driver 8," "Man on the Moon," "Losing My Religion," "One I Love," "Fall on Me," "It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)," and others. Given R.E.M.'s numerous albums and plethora of great songs, there are sure to be a number of unfortunate exclusions. Still, there are enough classic R.E.M. songs here to satisfy any fan of the legendary band. ~ Jason Birchmeier
