Andante Cantabile - Romantic Music for Cello and Orchestra

Album Summary

Performers Conductors Ensembles Composers

Notes & Reviews:

The repertoire for this highly attractive CD is drawn from concertos and individual pieces of music that exploit the uniquely lyrical character of the solo cello, accompanied by orchestra. The program ranges from eighteenth century concertos by Carl Stamitz and Haydn to Max Bruch's incomparable romance for cello and orchestra, Kol Nidrei. There is a large Russian component and finally, the complete slow movements from the cello concertos by Dvorak and Elgar.
