Another volume in Decca's lifestyle classical music series, For Your Soul features over an hour's worth of searching yet soothing pieces, including Barber's "Adagio for Strings, Op. 11," Puccini's "Un Bel Di [From Madame Butterfly]," and Sibelius' "Be Still My Soul." The collection features a nice mix of vocal and orchestral performances, with soprano Lisa Otto's rendition of Bach's "Ave Maria" and the Philharmonia Chorus & Orchestra's performance of "Requiem, Op. 48: In Paradisum" defining the former and Saint-Saëns' "The Swan From Carnival of the Animals" and Mendelssohn's "Nocturne From A Midsummer Night's Dream" representing the latter. For Your Soul is also worthwhile for classical fans in that it doesn't just haul out the tried-and-true, best-known relaxing classical pieces. Overall, it's an interesting mix of calming and challenging music; while it may too involving for meditation or massage, the collection is a perfect soundtrack for reading, writing, or other mentally engaging activity. ~ Heather Phares
