This sparkling, lyrical comic opera is the masterpiece of Boieldieu (1775-1834), one of the leaders of the opera-comique school in France. Its tenor arias in particular are spectacular, and perfect for Nicolai Gedda, the most famous light-opera tenor of the past half century. Live performance 1964.
