Notes & Reviews:

Led by their founder, trumpeter Rolf Smedvig, the virtuoso Empire Brass are joined by two other talented quintets for this recording from the Boston Symphony and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The three quintets were placed in different locatons in the enormous room at the National Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts, for optimal antiphonal effects.

BBC Music Magazine
The Empire Brass Quintet's tight ensemble highlights the visceral energy of Gabrieli's antiphonal works. The showy, 'big-band' sound may be a far cry from the muted timbres of sackbut and cornett but few could deny the ensemble's dizzying virtuosity.
