"Carpenter is best known for his jazz-influenced orchestral music, his ballet 'Skyscrapers', and his songs. The Violin Sonata, String Quartet, and Piano Quintet are his only pieces of chamber music. They are all formal works with strong European influences. All the playing here is great. Schwarz and Posnak have a very sensitive rapport in the sonata, and the balance between the piano and string quartet is ideal in the quintet." - Fine, ARG
