Originally title 'Lady Macbeth of the Mtsendk District', this is the opera that got Shostakovich in trouble with the Stalinist authorities. He revised it years later as 'Katerina Ismailova', and considered it his final word on the subject. The revised version is seldom performed today, and never before offered at budget price! A thrilling performance in wonderful sound quality.
