With the rise of public Christmas concerts have come 'sleigh-rides' and pot-pourris of all shades and varieties. The first substantial work based on Christmas carols came in the mid-1920s in the form of 'A Carol Symphony' by Victor Hely-Hutchinson. Each movement is based on a single carol. The remaining works on the disc present some delightful Christmas orchestral works by well-known English composers.
