Album Summary
Performers
Colin Horsley (Piano)
Max Rostal (Violin)
Notes & Reviews:
Violinist Max Rostal was the successor to his master Carl Flesch, as a teacher and a solid, serious soloist. Rostal won the Mendelssohn Prize in 1925, led the Oslo Philharmonic, became Flesch's assistant in 1928 and three years later succeeded Josef Wolfsthal as professor on the latter's demise. The three sonatas heard here find Rostal imbued with evangelistic zeal for the music of his adopted country.
