The Dreamworks animated film SHARK TALE tells the rags-to-riches story of a low-level aquatic hustler who takes advantage of the sudden demise of an underwater mob boss to start his own rise to glory. An all-star cast, including Will Smith and Robert De Niro, lent their distinctive voices for the assorted characters. Similarly, SHARK TALE's soundtrack is populated by luminaries of the music world, who offer both original songs and interesting covers.
The album opens on a lively note with Sean Paul and Ziggy Marley offering some pop-tinged reggae on the festive "Three Little Birds," by Marley's famous father. This is followed by a rambunctious reinterpretation of "Car Wash" that combines the talents of Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott. The musical lines stretch from the youthful R&B of JoJo on "Secret Love" to hip-hop scandalmongers D12 on "Lies & Rumors." A cool coincidence occurs as Cheryl Lynn appears on the fetching "Sweet Kind of Life," while Mary J. Blige and Will Smith get together on a faithful cover of Lynn's classic "Got to Be Real." The soundtrack for SHARK TALE captures the wide-eyed, fun spirit of the movie.
