Notes & Reviews:

In music, the period from the middle of the 18th century to the beginning of the nineteenth is usually referred to as the Classical era. It was a period in which ancient art, literature and architecture were being rediscovered, which influenced the modern arts of the time. It was also a time of great social unrest with challenges to the old order culminating in the French Revolution of 1789. This set explores how these pressures are reflected in the music written during that turbulent yet intensely creative time.
