Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Naxos presents this outstanding performance by the late Kenneth Schermerhorn and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, narrated by James F. Neal. Morton Gould is one of Americas most popular composers. Relating the story of Lizzie Borden, the famous alleged murderess who took an ax and gave her mother 40 whacks, the Fall River Legend is one of Goulds most frequently performed and best known works. Usually heard as a concert suite, the Fall River Legend is recorded here in its entirety. In the Jekyll and Hyde Variations, Gould chose the variation form as a way of dramatizing the diverse characteristics of the famous split-personality. Gould always considered it among his best works, but until now there have been few opportunities to hear it.
