Notes & Reviews:

Beginning in 1903, Max Reger (1873-1916) composed over a period of years the 60 songs that make up the extraordinary cycle of Schlichte Weisen or Simple Ditties, which receives its world premiere recording here. Shortly after completing her voice studies, mezzo-soprano Frauke May won the European Special Prize for best Wagner interpretation. After further study with Brigitte Fassbaender and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, she began singing in the leading German opera houses.
