Notes & Reviews:

"This winning disc features earthy, folk-drenched music composed by a youthful Sibelius which the LSO and Chorus under Colin Davis perform with passion and energy. The warm and sparklingly clear recording was made during live performances at London's Barbican." -BBC Music Magazine Choral Award Winner

BBC Music Magazine
Sir Colin is a Sibelian of commanding stature and the LSO and Chorus give of their finest. Monica Groopà and Peter Matteià are in fine voice here.

Gramophone Magazine
Sir Colin Davis has recorded Sibelius's earlyà choral symphony very successfully before with the LSOà but this version supersedes that. The adrenalin is free-running and the LSO choral contribution is gutsy in expansive tone and sharp Finnish articulation - especially in the spectacular finale.

The Guardian
A blistering performance à Groop was heart-rending in her description of her abandonment as a child, and Sibelius's orchestration was fabulously imaginative, with a passage of shimmering woodwind trills depicting the sounds of the forest. Mattei's horrified response was equally powerful, accompanied by shattering dissonances in the orchestra.

International Record Review
If any performance is needed to convince anyone of the early mastery of Sibelius, it is this one à this is a great performance. I have no doubt that the LSO at present is the greatest orchestra in the world
