Throughout the 1950s and '60s Renata Tebaldi (1922-2004) was one of the best-loved sopranos in the world. Famous both for the stunning beauty of her voice and the warmth of her personality, she was the only soprano of her era to seriously rival Maria Callas in public adulation. Tebaldi's powerful, opulent voice was employed with elegant style, and listening to its sheer splendor was a spine-tingling experience. She had a unique charisma that made audiences go wild.
