Notes & Reviews:
These four composers all studied with the great Adolfs Skulte, who was to Latvia what Eduard Tubin was to Estonia. Abols has written a work evoking the spirit and style of Martinu. Grinups is a composer of many dark and introspective symphonies who has written a work which calls to mind the chamber music of Shostakovich. Smidbergs takes a more unusual approach, with a work that explores tone clusters and interesting harmonic effects, and Zemzaris has written a delightful parody of salon music.
