Notes & Reviews:

Around the turn of the 16th to the 17th century, instrumental music experienced an expansion as never before seen or heard. Even though the repertoire from that period remains relatively unknown to this day, it is representative of the very important transition from the Renaissance to the first shimmering hints of the early Baroque, and is a treasure chest full of wonderful jewels that are well worth rediscovering. The program presented on this recording is only one of many possibilities and includes both well-known and lesser-known composers. Its aim is to give prominence to some of the major styles and most significant forms of expression for this music.
