Notes & Reviews:

Beginning in the last decades of the 18th century, New Romanticism seems to have given composers the impetus to write more works for the cello as a solo instrument. The cello's capacity to "sing" was exploited by Romantic composers for dramatic and melodic effects in ensembles. For this recording, cellist Anthony Arnone and pianist Timothy Lovelace have dipped into the cello literature for the "Forgotten Romances" that were written intentionally for the cello and piano rather than arrangements for the cello by well-known composers.
