Album Summary
Ensemble ComposersNotes & Reviews:
Presented here are eight examples of composers exploring ways of mixing eastern and western styles with classical and folk traditions; the earliest going back to 1880. Britain's leading piano duo, Goldstone and Clemmow, explore music from Israel to Siberia, and from Persia to Bali. The influences are diverse. Colin McPhee spent much time in Bali, while John Mayer, with his fusion of Indian and Western music was in effect one of the founders of the "world music" genre. Many of the pieces on this truly exotic disc are first recordings.
