Notes & Reviews:

Born into a musical family (including a composer uncle, mezzo-soprano aunt and a conducting grandfather), Neroni was encouraged to train at the Conservatorio in Milan as a baritone and a bass. He made his official debut in 1931 and in 1933 he made his stage debut as Don Basilio in 'The Barber of Seville'. Over the years he would make his mark on Italian radio and on tour, quickly learning the classic bass roles in such operas as 'La Gioconda', 'Norma', 'Aida', 'Rigoletto' and 'Falstaff'. He died in his hometown in 1951 at only 42 years old, but is fondly remembered by 2005's first international singing competition in his honor, the Concorso Internazionale di Canto Lirico Luciano Neroni.
