Notes & Reviews:

This disc presents some of the finest poetry written during the golden age of the Renaissance in England, the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. These verses have inspired composers from the days of Elizabeth I to the days of the current monarch. From Elizabethan Madrigals, 18th century Glees (a simply harmonized unaccompanied English song), 19th and 20th century Romantic Partsongs and contemporary 21st century settings, this disc gathers a garland of the Elizabethan in musical form. The Clerks of Christ Church was founded in 2001 in response to a popular demand for a group providing flexible programming for a variety of occasions. A welcome opportunity to explore alternative and often neglected areas of the choral repertoire.
