Album Notes

Personnel: Martin Carthy (vocals, guitar); Dave Swarbrick (vocals, fiddle).

Recorded live at Folcal Point, St. Louis, Missouri on February 23, 1990 and at McCabe's Guitar Shop, Santa Monica, California on February 17, 1990.

Returning to the duo format of their legendary '60s albums for the first time in over two decades, Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick pulled off an astonishing feat: LIFE AND LIMB sounds like the intervening 20 years never happened. Recorded live at two intimate club dates, including one at the fabled McCabe's Guitar Shop (and keeping to their traditional acoustic guitar and fiddle roots), Carthy and Swarbrick breeze through a set of nine traditional tunes, topping things off with a spirited version of the title track from their 1967 classic BYKER HILL.

Another highlight is the swirling instrumental interplay of "Carthy's March" and "The Lemon Tree," where Carthy's guitar and Swarbrick's fiddle weave patterns around each other like only friends who have played together for decades can. Truly a sumptuous collection.
