Cherubini: Les Abencérages / Maag, et al

Album Summary

>Cherubini, Luigi : Les Abencérages ou Létendard de Grenade, opera-ballet in 3 acts
Performers Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

Despite the acclaim given to Les Abencerages at its premiere in Paris in 1813 by critics and the audience (including Napoleon) and many subsequent performances in the immediate years, the opera was doomed to be forgotten, except for occasional performances of the sinfonia or of Almanzor's arias. This 1975 archive recording preserves not only another significant performance by the late Peter Maag, but returns to the original French, three-act version of the opera, with limited use of ballet sequences and most of the cuts restored.
