Notes & Reviews:

Toward the end of the 18th century, the five-course double-strung Baroque guitar was superseded by the six-course single-strung guitar. Within a very short time, this new type of guitar developed into a fashionable instrument. Keyboard instruments, too, were subject to radical modifications that led to a turning away from the harpsichord. The recording, 'Italian Serenade' encompasses these two instruments with performer Maximilian Mangold on period guitar alongside on Kristain Nyquist of fortepiano.
