Performers Ensembles Composers

Notes & Reviews:

This recording offers a small but choice selection from an extensive series of concerts given during the 'Vienna Mozart Year 2006,' which sought to present Mozart within the context of the Viennese milieu during the time he spent there (1781-1791). It not only provides examples of Mozart's astonishingly diverse chamber music, but also places his works within the context of charming works by some of his contemporaries: Adalbert Gyrowetz (1763-1850), Ignaz Pleyel (1757-1831) and Franz Xaver Sussmayr (1766-1803). The intention here is not to compare these different composers but simply to become here is not to compare these different composers but simply to become immersed in the Viennese musical world of Mozart's time, and to provide examples of the high level of "popular" music written for amateurs to perform in their homes and in clubs.
