Notes & Reviews:
"... as one would expect, excellent performances of some captivatingly colorful music. Russian Easter Festival... Svetlanov excites some splendidly exuberant playing from players who naturally have the stuff of the music in their bones... give a marvelous gravity and resonance... 'Dubinsuhka' is only a trifle, but quite a rare one. Rimsky-Korsakov heard the song being chanted by demonstrators marching along the Tverskoy boulevard during the 1905 "revolution," and both his liberal instincts and his musical invention were fired... scored by the master hand and very effective in the jaunty spring of its step... numbers from The Golden Cockerel, are excellently played under Svetlanov (he has a marvelously strangled trumpet for the cockcrow)... recordings are plain and effective, and decently balanced." -Gramophone
