A sleep study conducted at Case Western Reserve University concluded that music played at about 60 beats per minute is the most relaxing aural backdrop for sleep. This two-disc collection--a sequel to its 2006 classical-music predecessor--is built around that premise, and compiles 24 snooze-inducing jazz tunes by artists like Earl Klugh, Cyrus Chestnut, and Joshua Redman.

Leaning heavily on a smooth jazz repertoire, the mellow grooves here are listenable but light, creating a peaceful atmosphere that not only works for sleep, but for other quiet endeavors like dining, resting, yoga, and massage.
