Notes & Reviews:

In addition to his magnificent choral symphony The Bells Rachmaninov's most important contribution to choral music are his Vespers and The Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom performed by the St. Petersburg Chamber Choir directed by Nikolai Korniev. The Liturgy is the earlier of the two works included here and dates from 1910 while the Vespers, dating from 1915, has an almost operatic intensity that has helped earn it a place as a concert work in the Western world.
