Musto: Chamber Music / Music from Copland House

Remarks:

"In the Divertimento, for the unusual combination of flute, clarinet, viola, cello, piano, and percussion, Musto explores all sorts of unusual (but not "experimental") timbral combinations with consistent ingenuity and invention. Like his other pieces, it overflows with dancing energy, nifty melodic turns, and, in the andantes, wistful lyricism that erupts at unpredictable intervals into playful outbursts of balletic merriment, as if re-enacting the miraculous legend of the Medieval acrobat who plied his art before a statue of the Virgin Mary until at last the grave stone figure broke out into a warm, wide smile. Performances are excellent." -ARG
