Album Summary
Conductor Ensembles ComposersNotes & Reviews:
When Carlo Maria Giulini died earlier this year aged 90, the musical world mourned one of the great conductors of the 20th century and one of a line of legendary Italian conductors following De Sabata, Toscanini and Cantelli. BBC Legends has been at the forefront of keeping Giulini's name alive during the years of his retirement, with the Classical Record Collector Choral Award 2001 going to Britten's 'War Requiem', two sensational Verdi Requiems as well as seven other recordings. Guilini rarely conducted Hindemith's music, the composer's Concert Music for Brass and Strings gets a fiery performance and represents a real "find" and is a new addition to the Giulini discography. It has been sourced outside the BBC archive and is in excellent stereo sound.
