Mahler: Symphony no 4 / Sandra Trattnigg, soprano. Luisi, MDR SO Leipzig

Album Summary

>Mahler, Gustav : Symphony no 4 in G major
Conductor Ensemble Composer

Notes & Reviews:

In contrast to its opulent predecessor symphonies, Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 4 was a study in sunlit joy, intimacy and transparency. In addition, the finale is an orchestral lieder on a poem from one of Mahler's favorite sources, the poetry collection 'Des knaben Wunderhorn.' The tone landscape is characterized by almost childlike innocence, with a handful of the sort of colorful interruptions that characterize Mahler's middle-period symphonies.

This new release, part of the MDR Edition series, presents the next portion of Querstand's "series within a series" dedicated to the works of Gustav Mahler. Features splendid musicianship by the MDR Symphony Orchestra and its famous conductor Fabio Luisi, as well as promising Austrian soprano Sandra Trattnigg.
