Notes & Reviews:

Pleyel was most active as a composer during the period of 1785-95. After moving to Paris, he founded the publishing firm Maison Pleyel and extended his business to include the manufacturing of pianos which would soon become famous all over Europe. Among his works are 41 Symphonies, a Requiem, 8 Concertos and much chamber music, including 70 Quartets. From the archives of Austrian Radio come three of his bracing, robust Symphonies, works which prove that Pleyel was a significant composer of the Classical era, well worth rediscovering.
