Alan Morrison is one of America's most respected concert organists. At the age of 33, he was appointed Head of the Organ Department at the Curtis Institute of Music. Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, he is a graduate of both the Curtis Institute of Music and the Juilliard School of Music, where he received degrees in both organ and piano. In addition to extensive solo and orchestral performances throughout the United States, Mr. Morrison has also played in Brazil, Canada, Germany and Italy. Besides performing organ and piano works of the basic repertoire, he has championed contemporary American composers, having premiered works by William Bolcom, Dan Locklair, Eric Sessler and many others. This new release is a wonderful display not only of his talents but also for the inclusion of many important works by composers both familiar and new to many listeners, so this disc is as much for American music aficionados as it is for organ specialists. It's always a treat to hear an unfamiliar work by Creston (whose Symphony No. 6 was for organ and orchestra), and Dan Locklair has emerged in recent years as one of the most important organ and choral composers in the United States.
