Notes & Reviews:

Mikhail Pletnev's Beethoven project is a large-scale recording venture that is unprecedented in his career-encompassing all of Beethoven's Piano Concertos and Symphonies. Pletnev recorded all Nine Symphonies with the Russian National Orchestra in a Moscow studio, while the five Piano Concertos were recorded live with the same orchestra over two days during the 2006 Beethoven Festival in Bonn under the direction of conductor Christian Gansch. Pletnev is one of the truly unique and universal artists on DG: Like Beethoven himself, Pletnev is a pianist, a conductor, and a composer. The Beethoven project is very close to his heart: "For me Beethoven is like a god. I worship him, and I admire his music. It always produces very deep emotions in me when I'm conducting it or playing it on the piano." The next Beethoven Piano Concertos recording (Concertos 2 & 4) will be released in Fall 2007.
