Brahms: Ein deutsches Requiem / Simon Rattle

Remarks:

Following in the footsteps of Klemperer, Tennstedt, and other distinguished EMI artists, Simon Rattle and the Berlin Philharmonic return to the 19th-century Germanic repertoire on which the orchestra's heritage has been based since its formation some 120 years ago, and bring to the label Brahms' most substantial large-scale work. The fifth movement solo is sung on this live recording by German soprano Dorothea Roschmann. Baritone Thomas Quasthoff completes the top-class lineup on this release.

Notes:

This album was awarded the 2008 Grammy Award for "Best Choral Performance."

This album received the 2007 Gramophone magazine award in the "Choral" category.
