Notes & Reviews:

In this second Thuille release on CPO Oliver Treindl again takes the helm in the Piano Quintets: "pianist Oliver Triendl impressively negotiates the thickets of notes that Thuille throws at himCPO does wonderful work in the cause of neglected composers of all stripes... The sound is warm, pleasant, and natural." -Classics Today on CPO 777008-2. The Piano Quintet in G minor was written during Ludwig Thuille's study years, and it is well known for its striking similarity to the contemporary work of Thuille's great friend, Richard Strauss. Thuille's biographer Friedrich Munter described it thus: "there is a dark, sometimes painfully pathetic, sometimes defiant and bold mood running though the work, and it is significant that the composer should choose to go back to this early work in his final mature masterpieces." The masterpiece Munter refers to is the late Piano Quintet in E Flat Major.
