The Atlanta Singers are a professional vocal ensemble known for their innovative programming and engaging performance style. From their founding 29 years ago by conductor Kevin Culver and soprano Cheryl Bray Lower, the group has developed a reputation for excellence in the performance of a wide range of choral repertoire ranging from Renaissance sacred masterworks to 20th century music. Selections from many of their concerts at Spivey Hall have aired nationally on NPR's Performance Today. This recording was inspired by the works of Moses Hagen, whose immense talent for arranging spirituals has inspired many choral singers. This talented young man was in great demand as a composer, arranger and choral director until his untimely death in 2003 at the age of 46. The Atlanta Singers dedicate this recording to his memory.
