Notes & Reviews:

All the way back in 1953 Igor Markevitch (1912-1983) recorded a classic performance of Pictures with the Berlin Philharmonic. Twenty years later he returned to Germany to record these exceptional performances with the Leipzig Orchestra for Deutsches Schallplatten and here reissued by Berlin Classics. Anyone who knows Maestro Markevitch's wonderful recordings, especially his Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky, realizes there couldn't be a better match of conductor and music.
