Album Summary
Conductors Ensembles ComposersNotes & Reviews:
A unique and utterly delightful program of rarely-heard orchestral works by rarely-heard British composers! Meet, for example, Cecil Armstrong Gibbs (1889-1960), mentored by Ferruccio Busoni, student of Ralph Vaughan Williams, friends with Arthur Bliss and Sir Adrian Boult. Gibbs's choral works and songs were once widely known in Britain, and the slow waltz "Dusk" from the Fancy Dress suite recorded here was virtually a pop hit on the BBC in the late 1940s and '50s.
