Notes & Reviews:
Pergolesi (1710-1736) was one of the miracles of music history, creating a number of masterpieces in a life ten years shorter even than Mozart's. In his brief twenty-six years he wrote several operas, of which La serva padrona ("The Maid Turned Mistress") is the best known. Its popularity has never waned since its premiere in 1733, thanks to delightful music and hearty comedy. It became the model for the entire Italian school of opera buffa that followed it.
