Charlie Sizemore cut his teeth as a member of Ralph Stanley's band and has had his songs covered by such bluegrass luminaries as his former boss and Jimmy Martin. Not surprisingly, his own take on bluegrass is no-frills with an emphasis on sweet harmonies, dizzying chops, and deftly told tales of lost love and hard knocks. This Rounder release, GOOD NEWS, was five years in the making and contains all of the above and more. With characteristic soul and wit, GOOD NEWS delivers gem after gem and easily makes the argument that Sizemore was one of the towering bluegrass talents of his generation.
