Notes & Reviews:
Inspired by the art and culture of the historic Silk Road, Silk Road Chicago ran from June 2006 to June 2007 and was created in partnership with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project. From these once-in-a-lifetime performances, Sony Classical is releasing a CD of selected works.
Always eager to break down barriers and inspire new platforms for learning, cellist Yo-Yo Ma wanted to see what would happen if the cultural institutions of one city focused all of their energies on a single event. Working with the city of Chicago, together they embarked on the yearlong citywide celebration Silk Road Chicago. Inspired by the art and the culture of the historic silk road, Silk Road Chicago ran from June 2006 to June 2007 and was created in partnership with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project.

Recording information: Orchestra Hall, Symphony Center, Chicago, IL.
World famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma teamed with the Silk Road Ensemble and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to record NEW IMPOSSIBILITIES. Like most of Yo-Yo Ma must that isn't traditionally classical, NEW IMPOSSIBILITIES blends genres and cultures to create a chamber music that spans the globe. There's a distinct Middle Eastern, Asian and South Asian flavor to the compositions here, marked by the use of non-Western instruments, but the attention to arrangements and execution is recital-hall precise. This disc is another exceptional accomplishment from an exceptional, and adventurous, musician.
