Bach: Sonatas / Viktoria Mullova, Ottavio Dantone, et al

Notes & Reviews:

Onyx is proud to present Viktoria Mullova's first complete recording of Bach's complete violin sonatas with harpsichord, partnered by one of the world's finest keyboard players, Ottavio Dantone (director of the Accademia Bizantina). The set was recorded in March 2007 after a sold-out European tour and marks the first recording with Mullova playing her recently acquired 1750 Guadagnini violin. She also employs a baroque bow and plays using period instrument techniques, as she always does in pre-romantic music. For BWV1014-1019, Dantone plays on a new harpsichord (2007 Oliver Fadini) modeled after an 18th Century Silbermann. For the other two sonatas, he plays a new chamber organ by Francesco Zanin and is joined by Baroque specialists Vittorio Ghielmi and Luca Pianca for the continuo.
