Album Remarks & Appraisals:
Champeta is the riotous Afro-Colombian street sound of Colombia's Caribbean coast - a powder-keg of rhythms from local slave descendents brewed together with Congolese soukous, Ghanaian highlife, and Nigerian Afro-beat.
Dirty Linen (p.87) - "The musicians delve into soukous, highlife, zouk and soca and mash things up in a celebratory style....The feeling of joyful exuberance does come through loud and clear."

Exemplifying the increasing cross-fertilization of global music genres, Champeta is the raucous Afro-Colombian street music of Colombia's Caribbean coast. Created by local descendents of African slaves, it incorporates elements of West African soukous and high life, as well as more local urban flavors such as ragga and compas. COLOMBIAFRICA is a pan-continental collaboration arranged by leading champeta exponent Lucas Silva. Fusing the energetic Latin rhythms of the Colombian players with the vibrant guitars of some of Afro-pop's biggest stars, this unique musical fusion brings champeta full circle, and back to its African roots.
