HBDirect generally uses the US Postal Service to deliver your order. We typically use either First-Class or Priority Mail, depending on the weight of the package. If you select our FreeFreight shipping option, your order may ship via USPS Media Mail. Large shipments may be sent via UPS. International orders are shipped via Global Priority Mail or International Economy Parcel.
We make shipments to our customers Monday through Friday, except on holidays. If you select our Standard or Priority shipping method, most titles are delivered in 2 - 8 days from the order date. If you are ordering more than one title, your order may be shipped from several different locations in separate packages. This is only to get your music to you faster and does not affect the amount that you pay for shipping. If you select our FreeFreight shipping option, delivery time will generally run 7 - 14 days. Allow extra time for shipments to Alaska and Hawaii. In either case, we will send a confirmation of shipment by email.
With our Standard or Priority shipping methods, if most of your selections are ready to ship, we will often make a partial shipment rather than hold up your entire order. Also, you may receive "drop" shipments from locations other than our warehouse. Back orders will be sent as they become available for up to 60 days after the original order date. If you have selected our FreeFreight shipping method, your order will be consolidated and dispatched from our warehouse generally within 3 - 7 days from the original order date. If this results in a partial shipment, we will make one additional shipment to you within 30 days of the original order date, and then cancel back orders. We will keep you informed via email of canceled or delayed orders.
Once an initial shipment is made to an address outside the U.S, all backorders are cancelled. You will be notified by e-mail of any such cancellations. You must then reorder the cancelled titles (initial shipping charges will apply, unless you have another open order to which you may request to add the cancelled backorders). You may elect to have your order held for up to 30 days, to give your order the best possible chance of filling and shipping completely. Please indicate this by notating it in “instructions” when placing your order, or send us an email including your order number.
For orders placed on our website, by email, or by telephone, we accept Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express credit and debit cards. You may also pay with PayPal on the website. In addition to these payment methods, if you are sending us your order by snail mail, you can pay by check or money order.
If a disc arrives damaged or defective, we will be happy to replace it for you with a copy of the same title. If a disc is unopened and you decide you no longer want it, we will gladly accept the item as a return and give you a refund for the cost of the merchandise only. Please include a note of explanation for your return and a copy of your invoice, or note your name, address, customer number, order number and order date. There are several effective, intuitive, and quick methods by which to search for music on our website. Please note: our website opens to our classical section by default. To select a different genre to browse within, select any of the tabs near the top of the page, reading "Jazz", "Blues", "International", or "More Genres".
Pop-Up Menus: Once you have selected your desired genre, begin a search by hovering your mouse over any of the categories listed horizontally in the thick, colored bar towards the top of the page. A pop-up menu will appear, showing, in alphabetical order, the primary listings within that category. Additional listings, if available, can be accessed via the alphabet in the top left of the menu, and other links in the top right. Once you have selected your desired listing, you may then refine your search using the next set of pop-up menus, listed horizontally below the thin colored line. Again, the same listing format and selection procedures apply. You can continue to use the "refine" menus to narrow your search, until you have found your desired music. Titles meeting your selection criteria are listed in the body of the page, in summary form. To view an album's full details, click on the title of the album, or its cover image.
Sort Menus: Several other menus appear at the bottom of album summary pages, by which you can organize your search results. These include "sort", by price or release date (by default, results are listed by release date, most recent first), "display", to select the desired quantity you'd like to see on a page, and "page", to navigate among the pages of your search results.
Search Boxes: Each genre has a search box towards the top right of the page. In it, you may type any criteria for which you'd like to search, click the appropriate circle below the search bar, then press "enter", or click the square button next to the search bar. The search results will appear. In the classical section, the results are listed as text only, in summary form, with highlighted links to each title (similar to the results of a "Google" search). Click on any linked title to view an album's full details. In sections of all other genres, the results will appear as they do when using the pop-up menus.
Catalog Number Search: This search feature appears in all genre sections. Enter the catalog number, then press "enter", or click the square button next to the search bar, and a list of all albums with that number will appear (implying there may be different albums on different labels, but each with the same catalog number). Please note: the catalog number search in any genre other than classical will search for matches in all non-classical genres.
Placing an Order
You may place your order on our website, by phone, by fax, or by mail.
Web Orders: Upon arriving at HBDirect.com, you can immediately begin placing items in your shopping cart. To select an item for purchase, click the "buy now" button located next to a title on either its summary or full details page. You may then either continue shopping, or follow the prompts to check out. If you choose to check out at this time, you will be prompted to log on to your account (if you have not already done so) or to create your account (if you have not already created it). To register your account, select the appropriate radio button, and fill in the registration form. You will then be able to continue placing your order. If you wish to register your account without making a purchase, click on the link reading "New User: Register Here", or "New Account", both located in the right-hand column of every page.
Wish List: If you'd like to save a title for purchase at a later date, you may elect to put it on your "wish list" by clicking the "wish" button, also located next to a title, on either its summary or full details page. Wish lists are saved to your account, but are subject to current prices and price changes, which are automatically updated in your wish list. You can easily move title back and forth between your wish list and your shopping cart.
Telephone Orders: Please give us a call to place your order: 1(800) 222-6872. New customers, please note: creating an account over the phone (or by mail) does not create an account on our website. If you also wish to place web orders, you must also register on the website. This also applies to current customers who have ordered exclusively by phone or by mail, but now wish to also place web orders.
Mail Orders: Please fill out the order form located in the back of the monthly newspaper, and mail your order to the indicated address (also listed below). If you do not have an order form, please include the following information with your order: your name, customer number (if known), billing and shipping addresses, contact information (phone number and/or e-mail address), and catalog numbers and titles of your selections. Please include payment with your order.

For web orders, order status information is accessible through your website account. Go to "My Account", sign in, and then click "List My Orders", under "My Orders". For web, phone, and mail orders, we also e-mail regular order status updates, including order confirmation, shipping confirmation and tracking information, and order delay and cancellation notifications. For domestic customers without an e-mail address on file, we send letters informing of any 60-day backorder cancellations, and cut-outs (discontinued titles) on your order. We do not send letters to international customers.
Our publications come in two forms.
eNewsletters:: Our e-newsletters are available to anyone, and are issued several times a week, highlighting new releases and monthly and weekend sales. They come in two varieties - classical and jazz. To subscribe, or unsubscribe, please visit the link reading "manage my subscription" on the right-hand side of the page on our website.
Paper Newspapers: Our classical music newspaper is printed monthly, and highlight new releases and labels on sale for that month. You will receive the monthly newspaper as long as you are placing regular orders with HBDirect (USA addresses only). Alternatively, anyone can download the current month's newsletter free of charge, by clicking the link reading "download newspaper" on the right-hand side of the page on our website.

HBDirect began as a mail order company back in 1988, started by french horn player Beverly Haverstick and trombone player Paul Ballyk. In the early years, the company depended exclusively on direct mail catalogs to market classical music - the music that they were the most passionate about. In 1993, with the advent of selling on the internet, HBDirect became the first exclusively classical music store on the web. Since then, other music genres have been added; notably Jazz, Blues and International. The company now carries all types of music - some 750,000 titles in all are available through its website and its call center in Waterbury Center Vermont. Beverly now goes by the name Ballyk too, but changing the company name to “BBDirect” was not seriously considered.
