This Mass was composed between 1819 and 1822. Schubert had already written four masses, yet this one went through numerous revisions. Firmly rooted in the church music tradition, Schubert nevertheless found a style quite unique to him, based on bold harmony. Despite the highly varied from of the individual movements, the Mass has a unified character, thanks to the closely related thematic material.Notes & Reviews:
