Album Remarks & Appraisals:

"Now if y'all haven't got a chance to pick up the new Mel TillisCD, You Ain't Gonna Believe This, now is the time to go ahead and do it. This is Mel's first comedy CD to be released and, to date, folks everywhere are giving it a ton of rave reviews. In less than a month, You Ain't Gonna Believe This has risen to #75 on the Country Billboard, #4 on the Comedy Charts, and has even been nominated for a Grammy.

Within the CD, Mel talks and jokes about everything from Self Ordained Preachers with parrots (yes, I said parrots) to really good deeds gone really really wrong. There's seems to be no end to the hysterical good old fashioned clean tales that Mel can weave. Trust me, when I say the snickers and giggles will go on and on because You Ain't Gonna Believe This has a whopping nineteen bouts of laughter for you to go through.

I couldn't get through two tales before having to stop and call Mel. I just had to congratulate and ask him how he was feeling about the great response he was getting from You Ain't Gonna Believe This so far. Mel said that "he's sittin' on cloud nine" and is "tickled to death over the response" it has had thus far. Overall, Mel just seemed to be happy that he's able to bring laughter to folks.

Now, I halfway expect that it won't take too long before we see another comedy masterpiece coming from Mel Tillis because from what he was saying, he has still has a ton of material tucked away too!! If you think it can't get any better (it does) because you can get You Ain't Gonna Believe This for a mere $10...now if that don't just beat all!" -Nashville.About

""You Ain't Gonna Believe This ... ," Mel Tillis' first comedy album , is a barrel of laughs. His stage shows usually featured his light side, and the new CD features items from some of those appearances. There are three original songs, but the rest of the release is devoted to joke telling . Fortunately, Tillis is a good storyteller, so even the chestnuts elicit some giggles. Tillis, a Floridian who has cut more than 60 albums during his 50-year career, has made a fine living as a songwriter. His hits include "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love To Town" and "Honey, Open That Door," which did quite well, respectively, for Kenny Rogers and Ricky Skaggs. For the most part, the new release is family-oriented, much of it tongue-in-cheek. The funniest piece is "Cleo" (as in "patra") . The title piece is one of the old jokes resurrected, as is the story of the preacher and the parrot called "Peed on the Matches." The CD has 23 cuts, but they run together as one long piece." -HamptonRoads

Mel Tillis speaks the truth: you ain't gonna believe that at the age of 78, Mel decided to release his first comedy album. It's the kind of thing that's beyond criticism: it's just a wonder to behold whether you wind up laughing or not, but old pro that he is, Tillis has some serious chops at spinning a story, so he might goad you into laughing whether or not his cornpone humor is up your alley. If there's anything to be held against You Ain't Gonna Believe This..., it's that at an hour long it's a lot to take in at one sitting, but listen to it in chunks and it can be a riot. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
